The next stop of our Live Dance Archive series, named after Zoltán Zsuráfszky, is titled Viharsarok, this time directed by Gergő Sánta, the dance director of the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble. The dance culture of the nationalities of the southern Tisza region, the outstanding dancers of the Hungarian-Romanian-Gypsy villages of Viharsarok, and the special world of original dance material found there will come to life in the next program of our Live Dance Archive. In the performance, in addition to authentically presenting the diverse cultural traditions of the region, the audience will also see never-before-seen dances and rarely heard musical material during the stage presentation of the authentic dance and music selection. The sound of the “restlessness” of Békés, the instinct of the Gypsy people, the fire of the Romanian people are all treasures of the region that we hope will be given a worthy place in the Live Dance Archive series.
The words of writer Géza Féja about the region of Viharsarok and its inhabitants:
“Landscapes also have their own destiny… Under the vast and unbroken Great Plain sky and in the infinity of the plain, everything becomes especially beautiful… The landscape and people are abundant in life, like the blessed fruit tree, no matter how narrow its fate. The southern Tisza region, the famous historical Viharsarok, also gave birth to infinite gentleness… These are oriental faces, and hidden heats flare behind the olive-brown, cold mask… there is a kind of healthy tribal wildness in them, a developed aesthetic inclination, a zest for life that constantly tickles a smile from within, and a mystical inclination.”
