Requiem for Mohács

Requiem for Mohács is the new large-scale dance production of the Hungarian National Dance Ensemble, Hungary’s largest professional folk dance company. Premiering in Mohács on 22 August 2026, the performance commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács. Created by the Kossuth Prize-winning artistic duo Zoltán Zsuráfszky, Artist of the Nation, and Zsuzsa Zs. Vincze, this powerful stage production reflects on one of the defining national tragedies in Hungarian history and its enduring legacy.

Although Requiem for Mohács tells the story of a time of mourning and heroes marked by tragic destinies, it also seeks to offer an uplifting experience. Through shared remembrance, a sense of belonging and the power of community, the production invites audiences to rediscover the enduring beauty, resilience and spiritual strength of Hungarian culture.
